SYNOPSIS
In Havana in the nineteen sixties, there were 140 movie theaters. Only a dozen remain today. For ten years, the cinema industry was a pillar of the Cuban Revolution, but the regime’s hardening and the economic recession precipitated its decline. Fifty years later, only a dozen movie theaters are still running in Havana, while a new generation of bold filmmakers struggles for the very existence of Cuban cinema. In the Heat of the Cold Years tells the story of Revolutionary Cuban cinema through the memories of a choral of elder filmmakers, such as Luciano Castillo, the director of the national film archives, as he scrambles for the preservation of this crumbling cultural legacy, and through a group of young Cuban filmmakers struggling to make their first feature film.

Born in Fontainebleau in 1993, he grew up in Paris and currently lives there. After his studies, he went to live in New York and worked there as a photographer, mostly in journalism. In 2014, he started working on his first long feature documentary " In the heat of the cold years " with Amok films, in Cuba. In 2017, he went back to New York to start his 2nd long feature documentary " Soy Immortal ". Both of them are in production and should be released in 2022.
EYTAN JAN
First a fashion photographer, he discovered in 2014 the exercise of portraiture and reportage through the magazine I HEART. He made his mark in particular in India, in the Himalayas of Nepal, or in Scotland to bring back portraits of artists and natives. Since that time, the art of the portrait has not left him and he multiplies the collaborations , works for magazines like Les Inrockuptibles or for classical music album covers. Talented, his work feeds on aesthetic requirements and luxury codes. Eytan made his acquaintance with documentary cinema through the musical group “THE LEMONS”. Taken by passion for what the video tool can offer, he directed several films.
